Surface Toolset
The interpolation toolkit aims to fill in cells with unknown values to output continuous raster data. Examples of these outputs are digital elevation model (DEM), temperature and barometric maps, land price maps and other continuous raster data.
All the tools of this group are located in the 3D Analyst Tools box within the Raster Surface Toolset and part of the Visibility toolset and they have been explained, and to access the tools, click on each of the following tools:
1. Aspect:
Derives the aspect from
each cell of a raster surface.
The aspect identifies
the compass direction that the downhill slope faces for each location.
2. Contour:
Creates a feature class
of contours from a raster surface.
3. Contour List:
Creates a feature class
of selected contour values from a raster surface.
4. Contour with Barriers:
Creates contours from a
raster surface. The inclusion of barrier features allows you to independently
generate contours on either side of a barrier.
5. Curvature:
Calculates the curvature
of a raster surface, optionally including profile and plan curvature.
6. Cut Fill:
Calculates the volume
change between two surfaces. This is typically used for cut and fill
operations.
7. Hillshade:
Creates a shaded relief from a surface raster by considering the illumination source angle and shadows.
8. Observer Points:
Identifies which
observer points are visible from each raster surface location.
9. Slope:
Identifies the slope
(gradient or steepness) from each cell of a raster.
10. Viewshed:
Determines the raster
surface locations visible to a set of observer features.
11. Viewshed 2:
Determines the raster
surface locations visible to a set of observer features using geodesic methods
12. Visibility:
Determines the raster surface locations visible to a set of observer features, or identifies which observer points are visible from each raster surface location.
